Bryan Bañuelos Jara

Bryan was born in Jalisco, Mexico, in a small farm town that had too much maize around. Seeking a change of scenery, Bryan moved to Salt Lake City, Utah at age 16 to surround himself with mountains instead. During his time at the University of Utah, Bryan studied bacterial second messenger signaling pathways in Prof. Ming Hammond’s group, where he eventually developed a fascination for microbes. After deciding that city-roaming turkeys and unpredictable weather was what he wanted for his PhD, Bryan moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Now, Bryan’s research seeks to uncover the effect of bacterial cholesterol metabolism in the human gut microbiome. You may find Bryan often complaining about Boston weather, trying to (sometimes unsuccessfully) propagate plant cuttings, or making a nice mocha latte. He appreciates raccoons.
