Gil Namkoong

Gil is originally from Seoul, South Korea. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Seoul National University in 2018. He then pursued his graduate studies at MIT in the laboratory of Prof. Daniel Suess and received his Ph.D. in 2023. His thesis work was focused on developing chemical methods that can enable in-depth spectroscopic studies of complex metalloenzymes. In October 2023, he joined the Balskus group as a postdoctoral fellow. Gil’s research in the Balskus group centers on discovery and characterization of new microbial enzymes involved in anaerobic metabolism
