Signe Pedersen

Signe joined the lab in December 2024 after completing her Ph.D. in Beta Cell Biology at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Her doctoral research focused on the gut microbial metabolite butyrate and its effects on beta cells in type 2 diabetes. Signe has long been fascinated by the complex interplay between the gut microbiota, inflammation, and the host. In the Balskus lab, she studies how dietary, environmental, and microbiota-derived exposures influence tumorigenesis and inflammation in early-onset colorectal cancer. Outside the lab, Signe enjoys playing badminton, going to cultural events, and exploring nature through cycling, hiking, and cross-country skiing.
